Off The Cuff! Goodbye, ‘What’s for Dinner?”, Hello Fresh!

By Deena Kruzic

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. In this day and age life can be so incredibly hectic. It’s an amazing feeling when we find shortcuts to even the most simple of tasks, so long as it saves us a few minutes. And while some of us, myself included, LOVE to cook, I often find myself saying aloud, “Okay, what the heck am I going to make tonight?”

After a long, hard day at the office, taking care of the dogs, taking the spawn to karate…or guitar…or swimming…it can feel like the most daunting of tasks to pull items from the fridge, wash, chop, measure, portion, pound, grate, beat. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a wonderfully delicious, home cooked meal without the hassle and time spent?

Hello Fresh!

The fantastic people at Hello Fresh were kind enough to let me test their product, and all I have to say is WOW! I’ll take you through the deliciously easy process.

I took a stroll through their website at www.hellofresh.ca, and perused their plans. I had three options available: the Pronto Plan (quick ‘n easy meals in 30 minutes or less), the Family Plan (great, home cooked options for the entire family), and the Veggie Plan (pretty self-explanatory). When I clicked on a plan, the site gave me menu options available for that week’s cycle. I chose the Family plan, with the meal choices of Chicken Yakitori, Beef and Yellow Zucchini Stry-Fry, and Chicken Meatball Gnocchi. Yes, I know, they sound amazing!

When my box arrived, I stared wide-eyed at just how big it was, and when I opened it I was struck by the genius marketing and packaging. Everything was so well put together! I was truly impressed. Each meal selection had its own box, labelled clearly and easy to store in the fridge. Underneath the boxes I found the meats – all perfectly packaged and easily identifiable and kept nice and fresh with their ice packs.

A quick note about these awesome little ice packs – not only did they keep my food fresh and cold for a long period of time before I got home after work, but these babies are reusable, so feel free to keep them and use them for picnics and whatnot. Or, you can utilize Hello Fresh’s ice pack return program. Simply fill a Hello Fresh box with a couple weeks’ worth of ice packs, and email them for free pick up and shipping. Amazing!

Hello Fresh is a truly genius idea. The meals were easy to prepare, nutritious and beyond delicious – and the perfect solution to a busy weeknight dinner. We gobbled every last morsel, and that is a huge win, especially if you have a picky eater like I do! As an added bonus, you keep the recipe cards and can make these meals on your own any time you’d like!

Hello Fresh is available both in Canada and the United States. Their quick-to-respond and courteous staff, coupled with the sheer quality of their product, make it a no-brainer for this busy mom. I’ll definitely be going back for more!

Have you ever tried Hello Fresh? What did you think?

Until then, happy eating!

  1. I’ve been using it for a couple months. I also got my sisters to try it and they are hooked. It’s so nice to come home from work and not have to think about what I’m cooking. We were using the pronto box but have switched to vegetarian to try something new. I love everything about Hello Fresh. I’m also not wasting money at the grocery store anymore, buying things I don’t need. The three meals a week are perfect because we usually have plans the other nights. ‘Mondays are the only nights that I have to worry about something to make. I’m in love and may be a lifer :).
